JAMMU/Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir continued to see substantial rise in new Covid cases as 434 fresh infections were reported on Wednesday, while one more person died due to the viral disease, officials said.
The infection tally in Jammu and Kashmir has risen to 4,57,951 while the death toll stands at 4,761, they said.
Of the new cases, 248 were reported from Jammu and 186 from Kashmir, officials said.
Providing district-wise breakup, a Health Bulletin issued by the government informed that Jammu reported 154 cases, Srinagar 147, Kathua 31, Udhampur 19, Baramulla 16, Budgam 11, Doda and Ramban reported 09 cases each, Rajouri, Samba and Kishtwar 06 cases each, Kupwara 04 cases, Ganderbal 03, Bandipora and Pulwama 02 cases each, Shopian 01, while as no other district across the Union Territory reported any fresh ase.
There are 1,724 active cases of the disease in the Union Territory, while the number of recoveries has reached 4,51,466, officials said.
There are 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus).
Amid the spike in new cases, the Union Territory administration has made wearing of face mask mandatory in Jammu district, officials said.
On Tuesday, face masks were made compulsory in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Bandipora, and Ramban districts in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19, they said. According to a Srinagar based news agency, district administrations Baramulla and Kupwara have also made wearing of face masks mandatory at all public places across in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, Ladakh’s COVID tally increased to 28,670 with 22 fresh cases, officials said.
All the fresh cases were reported from Leh, they said.
So far, 228 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in Ladakh. Of these, 168 deaths were reported from Leh and 60 from Kargil, according to the officials.
The number of active cases in Ladakh stands at 92, the officials said.
As many as 304 samples were tested for COVID-19 in Ladakh. Of these, 223 samples from Leh and 47 from Kargil were found to be negative, they said.
Five more people recovered from the viral disease in Leh. With this, the total number of recoveries in Ladakh increased to 28,350, they said.
