4 dead, 26 injured as bus plunges into gorge in Rajouri

Jammu: Four persons were killed and 26 others injured when the bus they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in Rajouri district, officials said on Thursday.
The bus, which was on its way to Jammu from Surankote Poonch, skidded off the road and plunged into the gorge at Deri Ralyot in Manjakote area, they said. Security forces and local residents have launched a rescue operation, they added.

LG Manoj Sinha also expressed grief over loss of lives in Rajouri accident. “Anguished by the loss of lives due to a tragic accident in Rajouri. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. The district administration is providing all possible assistance”, tweets LG.
Deceased have been identified as bus driver Harshid Choudhary (26) son of Surinder Kumar resident of Chowki Nowshera, bus conductor Ravaiz Iqbal son of Mohammad Iqbal resident of Draba Surankote, Mohammad Jahangir Khan son of Mohammad Riaz Khan resident of Dharati Mendhar and Noushada Akhter wife of Mohammad Sajid resident of Dabrote.
The injured have been identified as Aftaj, son of Mohd Ashraf, resident of Surankote; Mohd Sajjad, son of Haqnawaz, resident of Panjgrian; Nazir Shah, son of Ali Akbar, resident of Samote Surankote; Tasveer Begum, wife of Mohd Riaz Khan, resident of Dharati Mendhar; Maqsood Ahmed, son of Mohd Khurashed, resident of Marhote Surankote; Afraz Ahmed, son of Niaz Ahmed, resident of Fazlabad Surankote; Mohd Shakoor, son of Mohd Sadeeq, resident of Dodassan Bala; Shamshir Ahmed, son of Mohd Bashir, resident of Bathian; Zabaida Begum, wife of Niaz Ahmed, resident of Fazlabad Surankote; Mohd Sharif, son of Mohd Shafi, resident of Dehri Ralyote; Nazir Ahmed, son of Mohd Wazir, resident of Marhote Surankote; Naheed Akhter, wife of Aurangzeb, resident of Dhar Gloon Mendhar; Mohd Sagar; Mohd Rashid Khan, resident of Fazla bad Surankote; Ishfaq Ahmed, son of Haqnawaz, resident of Thandapani Manjakote; Zensha, daughter of Aurangzeb, resident of Dhargloon Mendhar; Shamim Akhter, daughter of Mohd Akram, resident of Kotan Mendhar; Mohd Akram, resident of Kotan, Mendhar; Mia Mohd, son of Hamida, resident of Fagla Surankote; Mohd Tariq, son of Mehdi Hussain, resident of Muradabad UP; Mohd Rashid Khan, son of Alyas Khan, resident of Fagla Surankote; Sharoon Mir, son of Mohd Sadeeq, resident of Kotan Mendhar and three unknown.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal visited Government Medical College and Associated Hospital to meet the persons injured in a bus accident at Derilayote area of tehsil Manjakote.
SSP, Mohammad Aslam; PO IWMP, Sheraz Chowhan; MS DH, Dr Mehmood Bajar and other officers accompanied the DC during his visit.
Tehsildar Manjakote informed that as many as 25 passengers were injured and 4 died in the accident till the last reports came in. He also informed that the bus in which they were traveling met with an accident near the Derilayote area of tehsil Manjakote. The injured were immediately shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital Rajouri for further treatment.
The DC inquired about the condition of the injured persons and directed the medical staff to provide best possible treatment to them.
He also assured of all possible support to the injured and their families by the District Administration in these tough hours.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner also visited the accident and supervised the rescue operation. The accident comes a day after 11 people were killed and 28 others injured in another accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
