36th Kishtwar District Volleyball Championship commences

KISHTWAR: The 36th Kishtwar District Volleyball Championship, organized by the Volleyball Association of J&K in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, began on Thursday at the Government Model Higher Secondary (Girls) School in Kishtwar.
This two-day event has attracted eight teams from various far-flung areas of the district, including Berra Bata, Darbshalla, Matta, Chatroo, Paddar, and other localities around Kishtwar.
The championship aims to identify and nurture the volleyball talent among the youth while also raising awareness about important social issues.
One of the key objectives of the event is to involve young people in activities that contribute to their overall growth and well-being.
In this context, the event is also focused on promoting national reconstruction and addressing social challenges, such as drug addiction.
The Chenab Valley Power Projects (Ltd), Pakul Dul H.E. Project Kishtwar, has joined the organizers as a co-partner by sponsoring the event.
Their support underscores the importance of energizing youth in constructive activities and contributing to the betterment of society.
The championship was formally inaugurated by the Principal (I/c) of the School, Girdhari Lal, who declared the event open.
Among the distinguished guests at the ceremony were Bharti Sharvat, various sports enthusiasts, students, and youth from the region.
Earlier, V.K. Magotra, the General Secretary of the Volleyball Association of J&K, outlined the goals of the championship. He emphasized that the event would serve as a platform to shortlist players for the District Kishtwar Volleyball team, which will compete in the 36th J&K UT Volleyball Championship scheduled for December 13 to 15, 2024 in Jammu.
On the occasion, Kuldip Magotra, Chief Executive Officer of the Volleyball Association of J&K, and Ramesh Sharma, Treasurer of the Association, honoured the dignitaries by presenting them with mementos as a token of appreciation for their support.
The first round of matches was officiated by technical experts Mohd Saleem, Mohd Irfan, and Shahnawaz Mattoo.
In today’s matches, Berra Bhata Volleyball Club defeated Boys Higher Secondary School Kishtwar with a score of 2-1 (25-18, 16-25, 15-10); Drabshalla-B Volleyball Club defeated Islamia Higher Secondary School with a score of 2-0 (25-14, 25-16); Matta Volleyball Club defeated ITI Kishtwar with a score of 2-0 (25-17, 25-13); and Drabshalla-A Volleyball Club defeated Patshalla Volleyball Club with a score of 2-0 (25-19, 25-17).
The semifinals and finals will be held tomorrow, 22nd November 2024, starting from 11:00 AM onwards.
