RAMBAN: A joint team comprising State Pollution Control Board, Ramban Division led by Kuldeep Bhan, Forest Protection Force and others in a day-long drive/sensitisation against use of polythene under the J and K Non-Biodegradable Material (Management, Handling and Disposal) Act, 2007 conducted surprise checks in Patnitop and its surrounding areas.
During the checks, 35Kg of polythene was ceased and a penalty of Rs.2900 was imposed on the offenders.
The drive was also launched to sensitise the hoteliers, cafeterias, shopkeepers, drivers and public on the ill-effects of using polythene and littering the environment with it.
A large number of tourists in the area were appreciative of the efforts of the team and added enthusiasm to the drive.
