JAMMU: 33 Bn CRPF on Sunday celebrated its 50th Raising Day in the Headquarters of the unit at Preet Nagar, Gangyal Jammu.
33 Bn was raised on April 1, 1968 at Ajmer (Rajasthan). After Basic Training, 33 Bn CRPF was deployed at various places in the states of Bihar, West Bangal, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Mizoram, J&K, Punjab, Delhi, Tripura, for Law & Order and anti-Naxal operation duty.
The unit when deployed at Faizabad (UP) for security of Ayodhya Ram Janam Bhoomi/Shrine, five terrorists attacked the Shrine which were killed by the Jawans of the unit and for this gallant action 33 Bn all 34 personnel of the unit were awarded gallantry medal. The unit then moved to Assam for operational duties from June 30, 2006. The unit is now deployed in Jammu and Doda Districts for law and order, static guard vital installation and VIP security duties.
