JAMMU: Police on Tuesday arrested three drug peddlers and recovered 31.5 Kg of poppy straw from their possession in two separate incidents.
According to report, a party of Police Station Bakshi Nagar laid a Naka headed by SHO Bakshi Nagar, Inspector Ashwani Sharma and SI Krishan Lal Raina near Pawan Ice Cream Chowk and intercepted one truck bearing registration number JKO2AD 3763 coming from Rajouri towards Jammu.
During checking, police recovered 22.5 kg poppy straw from the possession of driver and cleaner and arrested both of them on the spot. The vehicle was also seized.
The arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Kirpal Singh, son of Chatter Singh and Sukh Dev Singh, son of Prem Singh, both resident of Gundah Khawas, Rajouri.
In this regard a case FIR No 78/2017 under Section 8/15NDPS Act was registered and investigation is going on. However, the whole nexus of drug peddlers is being looked into and more arrests are likely to be made, said a police official.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of DySP Pranav Mahajan SDPO West and Dr. Vinod Kumar In-Charge SSP Jammu.
Meanwhile, a party of Police Station Pacca Danga laid a Naka at Manda and intercepted one tempo coming from Kashmir towards Jammu. During search, police recovered around 9 Kgs poppy straw from one passenger.
In this regard, a case under relevant sections was registered at Police Station Pacca Danga and further investigation of the case is going on to ascertain the source and destination of the drug.
The arrest and recovery was made under the guidance of SHO Police Station Pacca Danga, SI Dheeraj Nagpal under the closed supervision of SDPO City North, Varun Jandial and SP City North Dr. Vinod Kumar.
