After 3-month, police solves driver’s murder mystery

JAMMU: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by Reasi Police on Thursday solved blind murder case after three months of persistent efforts and arrested the accused tanker driver in Reasi.
According to SSP, Reasi Tahir Bhat, an unidentified body was found lying abandoned along the roadside on 30th October, 2016 at Jhandi Morh near Kanda. Since the apparent cause of death was not known, inquest proceedings under Section 174 Cr.PC vide DDR No. 40 dated 30th October, 2016 were taken up by the SIT, he added.
He further informed that the body was later identified as of Bharat Singh, son of Dharam Singh, resident of Mangaal, Tehsil Triyath, Rajouri who was driver by profession.
The SSP said, “A case under Section 302 of RPC under FIR number 07, 2017 was registered at Police Station, Pouni and during the course of investigation, it transpired that the death was occurred due to assault.”
During the course of enquiry, one suspect namely Ravinder Singh alias Kalu, resident of Triyath, a tanker driver was surfaced as the accused in the case.
The SSP informed that the suspect broke down during interrogation and admitted the commission of crime. The accused further clarified that on 29th October, 2016, after filling tanker from Indian Oil Depot Narwal in Jammu, he left for Rajouri and on reaching Bypass Akhnoor, met the deceased who was standing on the roadside for boarding of bus.
Tahir Bhat said, “The accused lifted the deceased in the tanker and they both consumed liquor at different locations on way to Rajouri but when they reached Bharakh, a scuffle took place between them.
He further said that accused pushed the deceased out of the tanker and when he again tried to enter into the cabin, he hit him with the tool on neck due to which the deceased fell un-conscious. The accused further admitted that he threw the dead body on the roadside at Kanda and fled away, the SSP added.
