3 killed, 6 hurt as vehicle plunges into gorge in Kathua

Kathua/Jammu: Three people, including two women, were killed and six injured when a passenger vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Kathua district on Friday, police said.
The accident occurred on the Baggan-Katli road in the Billawar area when the driver of the vehicle lost control while negotiating a blind curve, a police official said.
He said rescuers immediately swung into action and retrieved the bodies of three victims — Rasa Singh, Janti Begum and Sabo Begum — from the site of the accident. The six injured people, including a 12-year-old girl, were rushed to a hospital. The condition of three of them is stated to be critical, the official said.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his anguish over the tragic accident and directed the district administration to ensure the best possible treatment to the injured. “Deeply anguished to learn about the tragic road accident in Billawar, Kathua. My deepest condolences are with those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest. Directed district administration to ensure best possible treatment to the injured,” Sinha said in a tweet.
