3 held with 67 kg poppy straw in Ramban

RAMBAN: Tightening its noose around the drug peddlers, Ramban Police on Tuesday arrested three men and recovered 67 Kg poppy straw from their possession.
Keeping in view the serious inputs and forthcoming Republic Day, District Police Ramban laid a special Naka at National Highway as well as other link roads for checking of vehicles. During Naka checking at Ramsoo on NHW-44, police party signalled a Swift Dzire Car for checking but sensing trouble, the driver of the car accelerated the vehicle and fled away from the spot.
Being suspicious, another Naka ahead was informed and police party chased the vehicle which was stopped at Panthyal Bridge. During checking of the vehicle, 67 Kg poppy straw was found concealed in three bags which the accused had brought from Kashmir for further sale in Punjab to earn illegitimate profit.
Accordingly, the poppy straw along with vehicle No. HR-26AR- 6310 has been seized and drug peddlers have been arrested who were identified as Ravi Kumar son of Banarsi Dass resident of Jodhawal, Ludhiana, Gagandeep Singh son of Dalveer Singh resident of Meharban Basti, Ludhiana and Sandeep Kumar son of Darshan Lal resident of Bajra Rahon Road, Ludhiana. A case vide FIR No. 06/2017 under section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered at PS Ramsoo. Police team led by Inspr Muneer Ahmed, SHO Police Station Ramsoo made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Mohd Rafiq and SSP Ramban Randeep Kumar.
