28 names cleared in handball, badminton

JAMMU: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has cleared the names of 28 boys and girls for its Day Boarding Scheme in two selected disciplines of handball and badminton at MA Stadium, here. In an approval letter issued by Deputy Director of the SAI Regional Centre, Chandigarh, Ritu A Pathak, the names of 11 players in badminton (including two girls) and 17 boys in handball have been approved for induction in Day Boarding Scheme, however, subject to fitness certificates issued by the competent authority.
“These selected players must submit their fitness certificates from qualified doctor of Government Hospital that he or she is fit to undergo rigorous physical activities at the time of joining,” the letter mentioned.
HANDBALL: Gurshish Singh, Abhay Khajuria, Aadhar Gupta, Anil Raina, Arya Chadha, Ashish Khajuria, Harsh Verma, Sahil Mehra, Abhimandan Patti, Aryan Baru, Aman Patti, Himanshu Badan, Piyush Amla, Dilip Singh, Vishal Bhagat, Sunil Spolia and Rahat Malhotra.
BADMINTON: Divum Gupta, Raghav Dogra, Savinay Mengi, Sukhkirt Singh, Prajwal Khajuria, Puranjay Sharma, Aryan Sharma, Mohit Choudhary and Sarandeep Singh. Girls: Naman Mansotra and Peehushi Mahajan.
Meanwhile, the SAI Coordinator, Varinder Sharma confirmed the approval of 28 names for Day Boarding Scheme. “We have received the names and after completing the required formalities, the actual training sessions shall start by the end of this month,” said the SAI Coordinator.
When asked about residential scheme in basketball and bandball, Varinder Sharma mentioned that the selection lists have already been sent to the Regional Office at Chandigarh for final approval.
“The process for final selection and approval from the competent authority has been initiated and we are hopeful to start the scheme by the first week of July,” informed Sharma.
