2,500 play fields developed: Bhalla
SRINAGAR: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Raman Bhalla said that the Department of Youth Services and Sports developed about 2500 play fields under District Plan, State Plan and Centrally Sponsored PYKKA during the last five years.
The minister said that the J and K State Sports Council is also engaged in developing of 61 stadia/play fields at District level, Tehsil level and Village level which are at different stages of completion.
Replying to a question by Vijay Bakaya in the Legislative Council, the minister said that about 10,000 youth from the State of J and K have participated in sports events at the national level in various sports disciplines during the last five years.
As many as 90 sports persons in Kayaking and Caneoing, Sports Climbing, Gymnastic, Judo, Taekwondo, Power lifting, Roller Skating, Fencing, Kabaddi, Badminton, Handball, Skiing, Softball, Wushu, Thang-ta, Korfball and Chess have represented the country in various competitions held at the International level during the last five years, he added.
