24th State-level Children Science Congress begins

JAMMU: The two-day State Level Project Presentation of 24th National Children Science Congress 2016, began on Saturday at Tiny Tots Higher Secondary School, Sainik Colony, here. The programme is being organized by National Council for Urban and Rural Development Society (NCURDS) Jammu.
The inaugural function was presided over by Zaffar Ullah Khan, State Coordinator National Children Science Congress whereas Harsh Dev Singh, former Minister for Education was the Chief guest and Veena Handa, Chairperson Handa Colleges of Education was Guest of Honour.
After the welcome address by Dr. Vikram Handa, Principal of the host School, Dr. Ashaq Hussain Chairman NCSC Organizing Committee briefed the audience about the program. He added that about 300 child scientists drawn from across the length and breadth of the State will be presenting 70 Science based project in the programme.
These projects will be screened by six evaluators of national repute drawn from neighbouring states Punjab, Haryana and UP, he said.
The teams from Kashmir region are being headed by Shabir Ahmed State Coordinator Kashmir and M.Y. Zagoo State Academic Coordinator Kashmir, he further added.
Zaffar Ullah Khan added that NCURDS is a voluntary organization working to promote the mandate of science across the length and breadth of the state by organizing various science awareness program besides extending hands on training to the teachers using low cost-no cost teaching aids.
Harsh said that working on the problem and finding a scientific solution of it in this teenage will definitely be the thrust of research to these budding scientists and thus one will definitely get inspired after noticing these young scientists working to find solution of problems. This is not only inspiring to these budding young minds but to all of us.
Veena Handa while praising the efforts of child scientists and the guide teachers added that these young minds are the scientists of the future. She said that the result oriented and science based education is the dire need of the present education system and NCURDS in the form of NCSC is doing a commendable job in this regard. She extended his full cooperation and help to the organization in organizing such programs for future.
Others who graced the occasion include Gurpreet Handa, District Coordinators and Academic Coordinators, Resource Person NCSC etc. The proceedings of the programme were carried out by Huma Irshad Shah whereas vote of thanks was presented by Kuldeep Gupta State Academic Coordinator. Meenu Mahajan, who recently got the title of Mrs India and alumni of the host school was also present and narrated her experience as student and how she got success to reach such a height and extended best wishes for the Child Scientists.
