24 including NC block president booked for attacking Jammu and Kashmir police
Poonch: Jammu and Kashmir Police has booked 24 people including several workers of the state opposition National Conference for damaging public property and attacking a police team in Poonch district.
“On May 1, Mohammed Rafiq, a resident of Golid village, died under mysterious circumstances, after which some of the residents of his village including several workers of National Conference held a protest there,” a police officer said.
When a police team reached the spot, it was attacked by the protesters who started pelting stones at them, he said.
“Several policemen were injured and several police vehicles damaged in the stone pelting,” he said.
The police has so far identified 24 people who were involved in the stone pelting and have booked them under various sections at Mendhar Police station.
Those booked for attacking police team include, Nissar Ullah Khan, block president National Conference, Asgar Ali, Sarpanch of Dhar Galoon village, Habid Ulah Khan, Sarpanch of Golid village besides 21 others, he said.
