KATHUA: Police on Friday foiled two bovine smuggling bids by rescuing 21 bovines from the clutches of the smuggler. As per the details, a party of Police Post Chadwal acting on specific information laid a Naka at link road Gair Tehsil Marheen and intercepted one Bolero Load Carrier (JK02AT-8877) plying from Chadwal towards Punjab via Korepunnu . As soon as driver of the vehicle noticed the police party, he parked the vehicle at some distance and managed to escape from spot taking the advantage of darkness. During checking of the vehicle, six bovines were found loaded in it which were being smuggled towards Punjab via Korepunnu. A case vide FIR No. 257/2016 under section 188 RPC, 3 Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act was registered at Police Station Rajbagh through Police Post Chadwal and investigation taken up. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused driver. Meanwhile, police party of Manwal during Naka checking at Manwal seized a truck (JK13 C 2184) and rescued 15 bovines. The driver has been booked under relevant section of law in police station Jhajjarkothi.
