2 lakh lavatories to be constructed in rural areas during 2015-16

SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Iqbal Khandey today reviewed the implementation of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the State in the first meeting of the State Level Apex Committee constituted for implementation of the Mission.
The programme is being implemented by the State’s Rural Sanitation Department.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Secretary called for accelerating the sanitation coverage in the rural areas. He directed stepping up construction of household lavatories, village sanitary complexes and school and Anganwadi toilets particularly in rural areas and ensuring greater and active participation of Panchayats in the campaign.
The Apex Committee approved the Annual Implementation Plan-2015-16, setting a target of 2 lakh sanitary latrines to be constructed in rural areas.
The Committee also reviewed the staff structure for the Mission and took various decisions to streamline it.
Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary directed making necessary organizational arrangements for implementing the Mission in the urban areas of the State also.
