2 killed as vehicle rolls down into gorge in Ramban district
Jammu: Two persons, including a constable, were killed and one injured when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.
The incident took place yesterday in Chambalwas area of Banihal tehsil when the vehicle, also carrying seven bovines, was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu, police said.
The driver lost control of the vehicle which skidded off the road and rolled down into the gorge, they said.
Police constable Mohammad Sharief and conductor of the vehicle, Amanat Ali were killed while the driver of the vehicle was injured, they said, adding the bovines were also killed in the mishap.
The deceased constable had taken lift from the vehicle driver and was going to join his duties in Banihal, they said.
The bodies have been handed over to their family members for the last rites after legal formalities, police said.
A case has been registered in this regard and further investigation has started, they said.
In another incident, an unidentified vehicle knocked down one Vikas Sharma in Samba district yesterday, they said, adding, he was taken to a district hospital at Samba where doctors declared him dead.
A case has been registered in the matter.
