2 die in floods, landslides in Jammu region
Jammu: Two women died following landslides and flash floods triggered by heavy rains in separate incidents in Jammu region, while seven persons were rescued.
Heavy rains triggered flash floods in Nagali nallah in Basholi belt of Kathua district, where four persons were washed away while crossing a river last evening, police officials said.
While three of them were rescued, 65-year-old Bijli Devi was washed away and her body was later recovered two km away from the spot, they said.
In another incident, one woman Darshana Devi was trapped under debris after a landslide triggered by heavy rains in mountainous Purmandal belt of Samba district, they said.
Her body was later recovered and handed over to her family, police said.
In a separate incident, two employees of Public Health Engineering Department were caught in swirling water of Naj river in Billawar belt of Kathua district last evening.
They were subsequently rescued.
Two more persons were rescued from flash floods in Balinallah in Udhampur district.
Over 17 houses have suffered damaged, while several of them collapsed due to heavy rain in different areas of Jammu region.
