Beijing: Police have arrested 186 people allegedly involved in telecommunication fraud in China’s southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Over 2,000 policemen with the help of dogs and drones were part of the action in Binyang County and its neighbouring area in the regional capital of Nanning yesterday.
The operation was part of a special campaign to attack telecommunication fraud, led by the Ministry of Public Security and the public security department of Guangxi lasting from November 26 to December 9.
According to a Nanning police officer, 186 people have been arrested in the campaign, involved in 21 gangs in the city.
Police also seized nearly 200 computers, over 300 mobile phones, 10 pagers, more than 600 bank cards and five guns, state-run Xinhua news agency reported today.
In China, civilians are forbidden to possess guns.
Telecommunication fraud has seriously threatened social stability and people’s assets, and further efforts will be made to crack down on such fraud, the officer said.
