People to follow religion, culture: Naeem

SRINAGAR: Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar on Saturday said that J and K is a multi-cultural and multi-religious State, where people have all the freedom to follow their cultures and religions.
The minister said this today in the Legislative Assembly while responding to an issue raised by Er Rashid.
He said that people in J and K have all the freedom to take decision about their private lives. “Our State is not France where government or some institute decides what dress people should wear,” he said adding that people here have all the freedom to follow their culture, religion and can dress as per their own choice.
Regarding a recent incident at a private school, the minister assured that the government would go into the truth of the issue and will take up the matter with the school management.
Meanwhile, Naeem said that Delhi Airport authorities had briefly questioned two Kashmiri girls who were returning from Bangladesh last night and both were released soon.
The minister was responding to an issue raised by Engineer Rashid. He informed that the Airport authorities questioned the girls to clear some suspicion, and said the girls were soon allowed to go after the questioning was over.
Minister for Education, while terming the act of thrashing of girl students of Gujjar-Bakerwal hostel by the hostel warden as a brutal incident, assured that strict action would be taken against the culprit.
The Education Minister condemned the act and said that it is a brutal incident that a teacher could have done with children.
Akhtar said that the warden has used the Lathi in a most brutal way while adding that such people should not be the part of states education system.
He informed that the incident has resulted in hospitalization of seven girls, who are now recovering there.
Assuring to take a stern action against the offender, the minister said that government has put the warden under suspension and an FIR has also been lodged against her.
He said that the culprit has gone into hiding and is avoiding her arrest by changing her hideouts regularly. He assured that police is searching for her and she would be arrested soon.
The minister assured that government won’t tolerate such an “inhumane “behavior and every step would be taken to stop such incidents.
