JAMMU: The District Congress Committee (Urban) Jammu on Friday held protest against the government for its total failure to provide basic amenities of life like drinking water, electric supply, ration and price hike of petrol, diesel, pulses and other essential commodities. The protest was led by Anil Chopra-President District Congress Committee Jammu. Former Minister and Vice President PCC Raman Bhalla also joined the protest and addressed the workers.
Bhalla criticised BJP and its leaders for their total surrender and lack of strength over the issues of people of Jammu region. He said the leaders of BJP have failed to represent the people who gave them heavy mandate to safeguard their interest.
He said that the people have right to know as to what happened to the promises made by the BJP for more than six decades to the people of the State and the nation to remove the Article 370, grant citizenship to the West Pakistan refugees, sealing the borders to check any sort of infiltration and crush the militancy with iron hand by strengthening the hand of security forces.
He questioned the status of promises of BJP for smart cities, artificial lake, delimitation of assembly segments, one time settlement of PoK and West Pakistan
refugees, reservation of Assembly seats for refugees and KPs, colonies for border residents etc.
Anil Chopra asked the functionaries of the District Congress Committee Jammu Urban to go to the people at the grass root level, listen to their problems and bring these problems to the notice of senior leaders of the party.
Presently the people are facing lot of hardships due to prolonged scheduled and unscheduled power cuts and in some areas of the Jammu city like Ban Talab, Gurah, Upper Barnai, Sainik Colony, Channi and many other localities water is being supplied once in four days for 40 minutes and the general public has been compelled to buy water from market.
He declared that Congress Party will continue to highlight the problems of people through all means including protest demonstrations etc.
