SRINAGAR: Stating that the Congress party won’t support the resolution on autonomy submitted by National Conference (NC), Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief, G A Mir on Sunday said that let there be a discussion over the demand.
Mir told a Srinagar based news agency, “It is NC’s view point. How can we support the resolution passed by the NC but we want that discussion should happen?”
He said that Congress party is also having several view points. ” The House is an appropriate place to discuss the view points, which are in the interest of people,” Mir said.
Mir said that the stand of Congress is very clear. “We wish discussion should happen over it but further it is upto government whether they allow to discuss the issue or not,” he said.
He said that if NC wants discussion over it then let the discussion should happen.
Sixteen years back the State Legislative Assembly had passed the autonomy resolution, which was later rejected by government terming it as ‘unacceptable’.
In the resolution, the NC has urged the House to convey to the Centre to reconsider the Autonomy resolution that seeks restoration of pre-1953 position in the State.
The Autonomy resolution was passed on June 26, 2000 during National Conference-led government, headed by Dr Farooq Abdullah. The issue coming up again puts the ruling PDP in a tight spot.
