SMC officials booked for allowing illegal construction

JAMMU: Three officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) including Enforcement Officer, Building Inspector and a Ward Officer were booked on Wednesday for allowing illegal construction of a commercial complex within the residential area of Mandir Bagh Srinagar.
The State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) has registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act against Bilal Ahmad Baba, son of Wali Mohammad Baba, resident of H. No. 6, B K Pora, Ward Officer and Bashir Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmad, resident of Nawakadal, the then Building Inspector of Municipal Ward No. 5 and Mohmmad Ashraf Warsi, son of Faqeer Ghulam Ahmad, resident of Baghi Sunder Payeen Chattabal, the then Enforcement Officer of SMC.
The accused, by abusing their official positions, in league with each other along with the beneficiary one Saleema, wife of Ghulam Nabi Malik, resident of Mandir Bagh willfully allowed to raise the illegal construction in violation of the rules and norms.
FIR13/2016 was registered under section 5(1)(d) read with 5(2) J&K P.C. Act and sections 120-B RPC in Police Station Vigilance Organisation Kashmir.
The case was registered following a joint surprise check conducted by a team of Vigilance sleuths which revealed that a 16 RCC column on the area of 34X68.6 Sq Feet upto height of 10 feet from the ground level including plinth beams were illegally raised by Saleema without following building norms and without proper permission from concerned Municipal Authorities.
It is pertinent to mention that during year 2015- 16 Vigilance Organisation Kashmir had registered four cases against the officers/ officials of SMC for indulging in corrupt practices.
The Organization had recommended departmental actions against the delinquent public servants of the corporation for their involvement/
misuse of their official positions in number of such matters.
