JAMMU: The members of Movement for Peace Equality and Justice (MPEJ) Kuldeep Kumar Rao and Ram Singh Chauhan on Sunday slammed the double standards adopted by concerned agencies in monitoring, inspecting and issuing extension to the recognition/affiliation of Private Schools.
In a handout issued here, the activists said that private schools are helping government in imparting quality education to the younger generation and providing employment to the educated un-employed youth but government instead of encouraging private schools, is harassing these establishments by levying taxes like Municipal Council/Committee tax, Labour department tax, Provident fund tax, Inspection tax of various departments, etc.
The MPEJ urged upon the Education Minister to listen to the grievances of Private Un-aided Schools in the larger interest of budding future generation of the society. As regards fee structure of various grades of private Schools, in-depth thought & consideration need be given so that some schools, below poverty line, are not put to harm at the cost of some well to do schools who charge more than Rs 1000 or above per month.
“The delay in according extension to the recognition/affiliation to the private schools is another tragedy of the system. The busy schedule of Commissioner/ Secretary should never come in the way of taking urgent decisions at the high level. As a matter of routine, the Deputy Secretary or the Additional Secretary Education Department need be put on job to avoid inordinate delays. Extension of Recognition/ affiliation to the schools need be given for more than five years instead of two to three years”, they maintained.
