152 breeders attend sheep husbandry camp

JAMMU: Director Sheep Husbandry Department Jammu Dr. Sant Ram paid surprise visit to the summer camps established at various locations of alpines and took stock of the facilities being provided to the migratory breeders of Jammu division presently camping in highland pastures.

During the surprise visit to the camps at Heerbaggan, Pahalgam and Aru, the Director checked attendance of the staff and verified the availability of medicines in these camps. The Director asked the staff to remain vigilant to redress the issues of the breeders as the main objective of setting up of these camps in far flung areas is to provide healthcare to the sheep and goats at the doorsteps of breeders. He also directed the incharge Veterinary Assistant Surgeon Pahalgam to remain at Aishmuqam for at least two days in a week to attend the breeders camping in that area.

The Director was apprised that till date 152 breeders have been attended by the staff of these camps and various health care facilities were provided to the sheep and goats which include 12995 dosings, 3550 dippings and 2000 vaccinations. Further, treatment was provided to 2080 sheep and goats against various ailments. Moreover, 61 Government rams/bucks distributed among the breeders in these areas for breeding purpose were also attended by the staff of these camps.
