Unwanted!

It appears Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is unwanted today. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which formed the coalition could not go beyond ten month stint and today it is also averse to sail second time. National Conference (NC) too have the same sentiments and Congress never had any liking for the saffron outfit. From just one seat to 11 post 2009 Amarnath land agitation, which began after Omar Abdullah who was Member of Parliament with BJP at Centre said in Parliament that no land would be given at Amarnath, sparked of an agitation in Jammu which continued for two months and reaped the benefit in the subsequent Assembly elections to make a gain of 10 seats. That was the first time BJP reached a double figure in the Assembly which in itself was a record for the party. Then came the 2014 Assembly elections. Riding on the Modi wave which was sweeping the country wide, BJP consolidated its positions by reaching a figure of 25 and joined PDP as the second fiddle to form the most controversial coalition which from day one onwards was on very weak keel. During almost one year journey there always remained a trust deficit and despite all confidence building measures the uncertainty loomed large on the government’s fate. The State BJP leaders could not fathom the depth they were falling and were basking in their new found glory of power. The biggest jolt the party got was the demise of Chief Minister and Patron of PDP Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. The BJP leaders today have become political orphans within their own region and the minuscule one’s continued with their spade work of getting drains and lanes laid. Despite having a political majority and remained in government BJP in Jammu and Kashmir is unwanted. This is politics. Even if the party’s Central leadership insists on keeping the coalition intact at whatever cost, the party will not be able to come up to peoples’ expectations. And if mid-term polls are held in the State which in all probabilities today looks a reality, then there is no doubt the saffron party is going to take the drubbing for its own deeds.
