150 candidates file nominations for 15 Assembly segments

SRINAGAR: Around 150 candidates filed their nominations for 15 Assembly constituencies in the state on Wednesday including incumbent ministers and legislators for the coming Assembly elections.
According to a Srinagar based news agency, the candidates who filed their nomination papers from the ruling coalition include Mian Mohammad Altaf, Nawang Ringzin Jora, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Abdul Majid Wani and Vikar Rasool.
From the opposition Qazi Mohamad Afzal, Congress leaders Mohammad Shrief Niyaz and Usman Majid, former Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Mehboob Iqbal and former bureaucrat Bashir Ahmad Runiyal also filed their papers. Meanwhile, reports said the Congress and PDP candidates for Bandipora, Usman Majid and Nizam-ud-Din reached the spot at the same time with their supporters who started beating each other by sticks holding their respective flags.
Talking to the news agency, Usman Majeed denied reports of any tussle saying that such incidents are part of the political process and that no serious tussle emerged on the scene.
He also stated that Congress will emerge victorious after the coming elections that people have rejected the policies of the sitting MLA.
PDP’s Nizzam-ud-Din Bhat stated that there are no chances of any party to register win at present as PDP wave has dominated the scenes all across.
Jammu and Kashmir will witness the first phase of polling on 25th November. The nominations would be scrutinised on 7th November while the candidates can withdraw their forms till 10th November.
During the first phase of elections, polls will be witnessed in seven districts of JK and for 15 out of 87 Assembly segments. Reports revealed that 5th November was the last date of submission of the nomination papers for the first phase of elections and around 150 candidates of different parties filed their papers before respective Returning Officers (RO).
