3 held for smuggling gold worth Rs 3.18cr at IGIA
New Delhi:- Three men have been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold worth about Rs 3.18 crore at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.
The accused were intercepted by customs officials on their arrival from Bangkok yesterday.
“They were trying to smuggle 4 kg each of gold bars (total 12 kg) by hiding it in footwear worn by them,” said Vinayak Azaad, Additional Commissioner of Customs at the IGIA.
A woman who was waiting outside the airport to collect the gold from the trio has also been detained in the case, he said.
All the three have been arrested and gold bars have been seized, Azaad said, adding, the value of the seized yellow metal was Rs 3.18 crore.
