Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance body registers case against SMC officersSrinagar: Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) today registered a case of corruption against some officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Roads and Buildings Department.

The case under Prevention of Corruption Act was registered following allegations that a resident of Bemina locality, under the patronage of some officials has started construction on a piece of land at Nawab Bazar area here which was acquired by Roads and Buildings Department for Circular Road Project in 1992, a spokesman of the SVO said here.

He said it was also alleged that the accused had converted his residential house into a commercial complex.

“An FIR under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and Ranbir Penal Code was registered in Police Station Vigilance after a surprise check conducted by a team of sleuths,” the spokesman said.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused purchased a piece of land measuring 2620 sqft along with a three storey residential house and shops from a person of Nawab Bazar in November 2014.

The accused, “converted the residential house into a commercial complex and further constructed a single storey shop under the name and style of Messrs A F General Agencies without the requisite building permission in connivance with and active knowledge of the then Chief Enforcement Officer SMC Nisar Ahmad Shah, the then ward Officer Nawab Bazar Mushtaq Ahmad Malik and Assistant Executive Engineer R&B Sub Division Syed Mansoor Sahib, Sheikh Javaid Ahmad,” the spokesman said.
