Gujarat: Congress MLA Jasu Barad passes away
Ahmedabad:- A sitting Congress MLA and former minister of state in Gujarat Jasu Barad today passed away at a private hospital here following a prolong illness.
In the present Assembly, Barad represented the Talala constituency in Gir-Somnath district.
He was 60.
“The MLA was admitted to SIMS Hospital for the treatment of cancer where he passed away,” Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said.
“Barad was unwell since long due to various other ailments,” he added.
Barad, born in 1955, won the first Assembly election in 1990 from Somnath constituency. Later, he was elected twice from the Talala Assembly seat in 1995 and 1998.
Between 1991 and 1995, he was the minister of state for water resources and water supply in Congress-led Gujarat Government.
In 2004, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Junagadh seat.
After losing the 2009 Lok Sabha polls to BJP heavyweight Dinu Solanki, he was elected as an MLA for the fourth time from Talala assembly constituency in 2012.
