Army organises Seema Darshan for students

JAMMU: Group of 30 students and four teachers representing the Kendriya and Navodaya Vidhalayas of various states completed the first of its kind visit to the border areas as part of the pilot initiative ‘Seema Darshan’.
“The visit that lasted three days from 22nd to 24th January 2016 under the Crossed Swords Division, was an exhilarating experience for the young girls and boys,” Defence Spokesperson Lt Col Manish Mehta, said, here on Sunday.
The children on arrival interacted with their peers from the local Kendriya Vidhalaya and Army Public School, exchanged of views on aspirations, social and cultural exchange left everyone enriched and appreciative of vast diversity of our nation, he said adding that they were given an introduction on Infantry Weapons followed by experience on the strength and raw power of the Tanks in the Indian Army.
“The children were awestruck on knowing and witnessing the large Artillery guns, their effectiveness and reach. They also paid homage at the ‘Groove of Silence’, Akhnoor to the martyrs,” PRO Defence said adding that the children during their visit were taken to a border post for a first hand view of the vigil being maintained by the men in uniform to include the enormity and vastness of our Great Nation.
Gallantry award winners and Lady Officers interacted with the children not only on carrier prospects but also on the various facets being dealt by the Indian Army.
A spot quiz on the cultural diversity brought to fore that the future generation is well aware of cultural richness of our Nation.
The children and their teachers have expressed their desire to continue with this initiative and if possible to various other corners of our Nation. The camp fire and cultural program was an apt finale just on the eve of the Republic Day.
