Swine flu claims 5 lives, toll reaches 10 in Rajasthan
Jaipur:- Swine flu has claimed five more lives, including three in Jaipur, taking the toll to 10 since early this year in Rajasthan.
Five persons, including three in the state capital and one each in Kota and Ajmer, have succumbed to H1N1 virus in the last four days (since January 15), a senior State Medical and Health Department official said.
From January 1 to 14, five swine flu-related deaths were reported in the state.
Of the 10 casualties, five died in Jaipur, two in Churu, and one each in Kota, Sikar and Ajmer, he said quoting a report.
Forty-seven patients who tested positive for H1N1 are still convalescing in various government and private hospitals in the state, he added.
Of these, 28 H1N1 cases are in Jaipur, 6 in Kota, 3 in Sikar, two each in Nagaur, Sawaimadhopur, and Churu two each, and one each in Ajmer, Alwar, Jhunjhunu, and Baran respectively he said.
Recently, the Rajasthan Medical and Health Minister R S Rathore held a high-level meeting with the district and state department’s officials expressing serious concern on revival of swine flu, and directed them to be vigilant in detection and treatment of the disease.
The spread of the H1N1 virus in the state has been attributed to the fluctuating temperature in the winter by the state medical experts, the officer said.
