MENDHAR: A mass protest was held by the residents of Mendhar against the Power Development Department (PDP), Public Health Engineers (PHE) and BSNL for total failure of their services in the border town. The protesters staged a Dharna and blocked Mendhar – Jammu Road.
The protesters said that the department of PDD, PHE and BSNL have totally ignored this border town and the people are suffering due to the non-availability of their services. They said that there are long cuts of power and low voltage which affects the water supply thus putting the consumers into enormous difficulties adding that their school going children do not get light for studies when their final exams are drawing nearer. They highlighted their problems but the local authorities do not take it seriously.
Meanwhile the BSNL services in this border area are given no importance and these always remain down, they said adding neither the land line nor the mobile services are available to the people. They said that on one hand the government is stressing upon e-working in all spheres but in view of such BSNL services, the Govt will have to cut a sorry figure unless remedial measures are taken to streamline its services.
Naib Tehsildar Mendhar Aftab Hussain Shah and SDPO Mendhar Sahid Naem heard the protesters and assured them that their grievances will be conveyed to the concerned authorities for immediate action. The protesters however while lifting their Dharna said that if the services are not properly made available immediately, they would intensify their agitation and block the roads.
Those who spoke in protest include Kafeel Khan, Safeer Shah, Imran Khan and others.
