JAMMU: Presiding Officer Fast Track Court Y.P Kotwal on Tuesday awarded 12 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and a fine Rs 50,000 to Sanjay Kumar who was facing trial in rape with a minor of eight years old girl.
According to the police, on 22nd June, 2012 prosecutrix had gone to the house of her grand-father. On her return, one Sanjay Kumar blocked her way and took her to nearby forest and raped her.
Presiding Officer Fast Track Court Y.P Kotwal observed that the rape cases and the cases relating to the crime against women particularly pertaining to young female children have alarmingly increased in recent time and the social impact of the heinous crime as in present case requires exemplary treatment. The Court awarded 12 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 50,000 to the accused Sanjay Kumar and further ordered that if the fine be realised than it shall be paid to prosecutrix. JNF
