10 killed, 15 hurt in Reasi mishap

JAMMU: At least ten people including 3-month-old died and 15 sustained injuries when a tempo traveler they were travelling in met with an accident and plunged into a gorge in Reasi district.
“A tempo traveler JK02A-0730 on way from Budhan to Mahore this morning rolled down when the driver lost the control,” a senior police officer here said.
He said that 10 people have died while 15 sustained injuries in the mishap.
“Police teams rushed to the spot and shifted injured to the hospital from where seriously injured were airlifted to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu,” police said.
The deceased were identified as Javed Ahmed, 26, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Jamslan, Mahore, Wazira Begum, 35, wife of Mohd Sharief, resident of Jamslan, Mahore, Charan Singh, 22, son of Faquir Chand, resident of Buddan, Liquat Ali, 20, son of Abdul Hamid, resident of Buddan, Mohammad Arshad,19, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Buddan, Mohammad Asif, 14, son of Ali Mohammad, resident of Jamslan, Mahore, Hamat Ali,12, son of Manzoor Ahmed, resident of Jamslan, Mahore, Mubbashar Ahmed, 5, son of Bahadur Din, resident of Sildhar, three-month old baby and Bahar Din, 27, son of Abdul Gani, resident of Sildhar.
Governor N N Vohra has expressed grief over the tragic loss of lives in the unfortunate road accident at Mahore area of the Reasi district.
In a message the Governor has prayed for peace to the departed souls and wished the bereaved families the strength to bear this sad loss.
He has wished speedy recovery to those injured in this accident.
The Governor has expressed deep concern over recurring road accidents and reiterated that every concerned agency should be held accountable for strictly enforcing regulations regarding the age and worthiness of the passenger carrying vehicles, condemnation of unfit vehicles, overloading, over-speeding, fitness and past record of drivers to ply passenger vehicles on notified hill roads, and punitive summary fines to be paid by the offenders.
He noted that no unqualified and unlicensed person must be allowed to drive any personal, transport or commercial vehicle.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has also expressed shock and grief over the loss of lives in tragic road accident. On the directions of the Chief Minister, severely injured passengers were airlifted to Jammu for specialised treatment.
She has also asked the Divisional Administration Jammu and the District Administration Reasi to intensify the rescue operations at the spot and ensure best possible treatment to the injured.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh also expressed grief over the tragic road accident which occurred in Mahore area of Reasi district in which several people lost their lives.
The Deputy Chief Minister while expressing sympathy with the bereaved families said that necessary instructions have already been passed to the district administration to ensure that the requisite medicare facilities are provided to the injured and the provision of airlifting the seriously injured should also be undertaken.
The Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs also expressed grief over the loss of precious human lives in a tragic road accident in Mahore tehsil of Reasi District.
In a message of condolence, the Minister has conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
The Minister, who is Chairman of District Development Board, Reasi directed the District Administration to provide every possible medical facility to the injured. He also wished speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.
Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Information, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali also expressed grief and shock over Mahore accident. In a message, the minister prayed for peace to the departed souls and wished speedy recovery to those injured in this accident.
JKPCC Chief, Ghulam Ahmed Mir other senior leaders expressed deep shock and grief over the grief over the loss of several precious lives in the tempo accident today in which several others have been seriously injured. The leaders expressed their sympathies with the bereaved family members and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
A team of senior Congress leaders including PCC Chief Spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma PCC General Secretary and former Minister Shabir Ahmed Khan and General Secretary PCC Vikram Malhotra visited the Government Medical College Jammu and enquired about the condition of the injured. They asked the administration to provide best medicare facility and treatment to the seriously injured.
Several senior leaders expressed shock over the tragedy and sympathies with the family of those killed. They included Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Ch. Aiyaz Ahmed Khan-MLA, Jugal Kishore Sharma and Ch Mumtaz Khan.
