LAKHANPUR: Commercial Taxes sleuths on Sunday realised Rs. 2.63 lakh penalty from one Bodh Raj, son of Chajju Ram, resident of Ward No. 13, R. S. Pura, Jammu for clandestinely importing a consignment of gold weighing 1.34 kg (gross weight) at Lakhanpur Check-Post.
The gold was in the form of biscuits, coins and ornaments. Taking cognizance under Sections 67(5), 67(10) and 69(1)(0) of J and K VAT Act, 2005, the offender was made to pay the due amount. Further, the Income Tax team led by Assistant Director, Income Tax Department Jammu took cognizance of the seizure and reached at Checkpost, Lakhanpur. They also started investigations into the matter under Income Tax Act.
